he had specifically implied that individuals are motivated by their desire to satisfy certain specific needs. In his theory there is the physiological needs, safety needs, esteem needs and self actualization needs. According to Maslow’s theory, unsatisfied needs are the prime motivators of behaviors, and needs at the lowest levels are of the hierarchy take precedence over the needs at higher levels. At any particular time, however only one set of needs motivates behavior and it is not possible to skip levels. Once the need is satisfied, then the individual will try to satisfy the next level. Salary and working conditions do play an important role in the motivation of the employees to do better. Salary is important especially in the first two stages of the hierarchy as they need to work in order to survive. The salary that they get is often used as a means for surviving. They are used to buy food, shelter and also clothes. As they prog!
ress further to the next level which is the social needs and the esteem needs, we find that salary does not play a role anymore. Employees would rather opt for better working conditions, sense of belonging and love. This is because they are financially well off, so the motivation is therefore diverted to other aspects. In the highest stage of Maslow, we find that salary and working conditions do not motivate employees anymore. Instead we find that th...
