No longer are we working to live, but we are living to work. It is clear we live a long way from the ideals of religion. The decline of religion and the rise of consumerism cannot be ignored. Many religions denounce materialism; maybe ignoring religion can allow us to be materialistic, which may be what we truly desire. Is it the decline of religion that has caused consumerism, or the increase of materialism that has caused a decline in religion? They cannot exist symbiotically. Which one makes us happier anyway?
