ter how difficult the task was. When Joshua was asked to spy out the Promised Land he obeyed. And when the spies returned in disbelief, Joshua was still ready to go fulfill the leader’s vision. Joshua displayed obedience, courage, follow-through, loyalty, servant hood, ambition, and decisiveness. After forty years of being in the wilderness, Moses handed over the reins of power to his protégé, and Joshua again obeyed the call. In the end, the people followed Joshua’s example and did what God asked of them. As a result of Joshua’s leadership they inherited the land God promised them. Joshua 24:31 says, “Israel served the LORD all the days of Joshua.” Judges 2:7-8 tells us that Joshua was known as “the servant of the LORD.” This was due to his understanding of the importance of obedience, and how to be submissive to authority.
Joshua showed us, concerning the ‘second man,’ we must be obedient to our leader. Joshua never undermined Moses, or went his own way. Joshua was always eager to complete the task his leader gave him no matter the challenge. He was positive and always backed-up Moses. Joshua taught the biggest thing concerning the ‘second man’- obedience. We also saw that Joshua’s obedience set the pace for Israel.
Like Joshua, the ‘second man’ must be obedient to the leader and must always stand behind him. He must be eager to fulfill his tasks, and be willing to follow through on his vision. The ‘second man’ must relate positively the foresight o the leader. By demonstrating obedience he will in-turn set the pace for the constituents.
