The new desires of Cisco’s customers is towards a “Network of Networks” in which there is transparent integration across all networks. That is, customers want Cisco products that work seamlessly across all networks. As a result Cisco’s primary goal is to help their customers increase their competitive advantage and profitability via their networks.
EXTERNAL ANALYSIS
By applying Porter’s Five Forces Model it is possible to analyze competitive forces in the industry environment in order to identify the opportunities and threats challenging Cisco. First, it must be said that Cisco is in the Internet networking industry.
The risk of entry by potential competitors into the internetworking industry is dampened by the moderate entry barriers. Cisco has good brand loyalty, but does not have a complete grasp upon it. Cisco has yet to gain the name recognition where every small, medium, and large business, as well as the consumer greatly desires a Cisco powered network. Make no mistake; the Cisco name is well known and powerful.
However, strong brand recognition is only one deterrent to entry into the industry. This particular industry features rapidly changing customer needs and desires.
