McInnerney’s has to focus on competitive priorities in order to stay in business. McInnerney’s is a new bar in Iowa City (est. October 2002). There are over fifty bars in Iowa City alone, and each bar offers the same drinks (however,food can vary). In order to stay in business, customer service has to be a number one priority. The distinction among the bars is customer service, competitive prices, and ambiance (layout). McInnerney’s strives to meet these competitive advantages day in and day out so that they will be successful in the future.
McInnerney’s is located on Highway 1 west in Iowa City, Iowa. The capacity of McInnerney’s, as determined by Iowa City inspectors, is 92 people inside and the beer garden has a capacity of 62 people for a total capacity of 154 people. This is determined by seating, square footage, and layout design. McInnerney’s is located on the corner of a strip mall and they picked to rent the corner building so that there could be a beer garden attached to the outside of the facility. This increases capacity and provides a competitive advantage, because not all bars have beer gardens.
II. Layout Analysis
Layout of a business is somewhat of an art form; some layouts can be modeled
mathematically. In the restaurant and bar business there are two main layout concerns: environment and aestetics, and flows of information. The bar must be appealing for customers in order for them to want to go and spend their money there. The restaurant/bar must also be efficiecnt in the flow of information.
