Thesis Statement: There have been many advances in technology coupled with shifts in our nation’s social structure that weigh heavily on the workplace environment, thus creating a need for new and updated management models in the Human Resources arena. This paper will focus on the history that lead to today’s conditions, the workplace as it exists in the 21st century, the inclusion of human resource management in the general management of an organization, and what corporations expect from human resource professionals. In addition this paper will look at modern day worker needs and motivation theories.
