2. My first impression


I found the book in the local library, I decided to read it because my mother told me it was good, and the reviews describe it as hilarious and as a very funny not-to-be-missed book.
I had high expectations of it because everyone I told about it said it was seriously worth reading it.

After reading it, I did feel satisfied with my choice but though I liked the book, I don’t think it is hilarious nor screamingly funny. It was funny but I didn’t have to wipe my eyes so that I could go on reading. What I find very interesting about this novel is the perspective an almost 14 year old boy, who claims to be an intellectual and thinks he knows all about the world. When his mother falls in love with his neighbour, he writes every happening down very innocently but he does not draw the logical conclusion that his mother is cheating on his dad. He really often describes features of a situation but he doesn’t draw the mature conclusion which the reader does get. And when he finds out later what is really going on he also doesn’t feel stupid. He thinks he’s the big boy but the reader knows he isn’t.

The book is the diary of Adrian Mole, which he starts at 1 January. He makes some resolutions for the New Year. He’s mad at his mum because she doesn’t give him healthy food. In January his parents get ill and Adrian feels sorry for himself because he has to take care of his parents. The neighbou...
