hat makes A Midsummer Night’s Dream so special because it opens up a passageway into the dream world, which allows us to enter this magical land the same way we did watching Walt Disney movies as a child.
Michael Hoffman’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream is filled with lots of magic and fantasy, especially in the depiction and nature of the fairies in the film. Everything about the fairies in the film is magical, from the sparkles all over their body to the way the fairy dust magically falls from their fingertips. This magical land Peter Hall has created leads us into the enchanted forest of Athens were reality and fantasy merge together to form A Midsummer Night’s Dream. And what a dream it is, because the fairies are no longer the typical little fairies we have seen in the past, they have grown. Adults played the role of the fairies in the film, which comes as a big surprise because fairies are usually depicted as little people. For instance, in Peter Hall’s version, little children who resembled this stereotypical image, played the fairies in the film. We are all accustomed to seeing this depiction of small little fairies in many of the stories and movies made about these cute little creatures but one film has broke the rules and depicted the fairies as adults.
