In April Morning by Howard Fast Solomon Chandler is a
main character with many traits. One character trait is Adam’s
view of Chandler which changes throughout the novel. Chandler’s
physical appearance and his war experiences are two more traits
expressed in the novel.
This is not Solomon Chandler’s first war experience. He was
in the French and Indian War. He knows the British tactics and
how they think. Therefore he takes over almost acting like a
general would giving orders and organizing plans to attack against
the British.
In the beginning Adam views Solomon Chandler as a hero
and respects him. He idolizes him because of his experiences and
his way of doing things. Later Adam realizes that Chandler enjoys
war. It is all like a big game to him. He wants to fight and he
wants to win.
Solomon is a tall man with long arms and legs and is as
skinny as a starved crow. He isn’t weak he is fairly strong. He has
a long face, a hooked nose, a jutting chin, and two pale blue eyes
deep sunk into their sockets. He also has a mouth full of broken
yellow teeth and snow-white hair. Adam says he is the most
freckled and possibly most ugly man he has ever seen.
Solomon Chandler is very well depicted throughout the
novel. Some of his character traits are shown through the way
Adam views him and his experiences at war. His physical traits
give a picture of what kind of person he is....
