Becoming a veterinarian is not an easy task to accomplish. It takes many years, a great deal of schooling and many hours put in to becoming a veterinarian.
The most important thing to know in becoming a veterinarian, is the job description. Veterinarians have to know how to diagnose and treat disorders of animals and engage in particular functions, such as, research, development, consultations, administration, and teaching.
Also another very important part of becoming a veterinarian is the specific duties that all vets have to know includes: performing surgeries on sick and /or injured animals, prescribing or administering drugs, medicines, and vaccines.
Education needed for this career one must complete two to three years of pre-veterinary study followed by completion of a four-year professional degree program. For research positions, a Ph.D. degree might be required. In Kentucky, there are no veterinary colleges to go to, so you must go out of state. There are 27 colleges in 26 states that actually meet the standards set by the Veterinary Medical Association. You must take three tests before going to a veterinary college: the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), the Veterinary College Admission Test (VCAT), or the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT).

Salary for veterinarians starting out is around $42,000 and in some cases up to $128,000, but that is only for mostly self-owned clinics. As time progresses, a veterinarian, before retirement, will probably end up making around $75,000 yearly if not more....
